Fun and games at the MILUG year-end gathering
At the end of the year, MILUG members get together to have some fun! At our 2024 year-end gathering we played games, built LEGO®, did some trading, enjoyed a potluck, and spent time just hanging out. We started off with Minifigure bingo, a nice way for members to ease into the event. We also did a fun game where we saw snips of LEGO® boxes and we had to identify the theme and year of the set. While some were relatively easy, others were extremely tricky!
We then held some build challenges including speed build (with instructions), non-dominant hand speed build (with instructions), and box build (no instructions). For one of the challenges the third person to finish ended up winning as the first two members to finish had errors. Always remember to keep building even when you hear people yell, “done!”.
We also did a couple of team-based activities including a mystery build challenge using only 2×4 bricks where a member from each team had to build a mystery item such as a fried egg, fence, sitting apparatus, and snow person, and the rest of the team had to guess what it was using the exact wording. Some teams were really dialed in! This was super fast paced so unfortunately there are no photos of this fun activity.
We have always enjoyed team relays and this year we changed it up a bit and did a verbal relay challenge. Each team had to select the person who felt they knew the least about LEGO®, and that person had to provide verbal instructions to each builder on the next steps. This was much harder than you would think as LEGO® colour and element names are not always intuitive!
The winners of each activity received a small LEGO® set. Congrats to all the winners! And a big thank you to all the MILUG members for a great year. We appreciate everyone who contributed time to build, volunteer, and organize all the amazing events we did in 2024. We can’t wait to see what we’ll get up to for 2025! Stayed tuned to our Facebook page and Instagram for updates throughout the year!
