5th Annual Mid Island Brick Fest!
MILUG held our 5th annual Mid Island Brick Fest at Country Club Centre on October 26th, 2024. This event centred around a huge LEGO® exhibition showcasing MOCs (My Own Creations) created by MILUG members and visiting members from The VLC (Vancouver’s AFOL community), as well as club collaborations and lots of different LEGO®-related activities.
There were so many magnificent MOCS, big and small. Some even contained moving parts! Check out the MOCs album on the MILUG Facebook page to watch the videos and to see more photos!
The MOCs including a huge Great Ball Contraption layout.
We once again invited TFOLs (Teen Fans of LEGO®) to join us by displaying their own creations along side our members. There were some amazing MOCs this year!
In addition to the LEGO® exhibition, we had a variety of activity stations including play brick, whacky race ramp, Minifigure bingo, LEGO® stop motion videos, Minifigure guessing, LEGO fun facts, and demonstrations from our special guests, Nanaimo’s chapter of First LEGO® League.
We had lots of public coming by and checking out our displays, with MILUG member’s answering questions, explaining their builds and showing off specific features or hidden Easter eggs (special hidden elements) in their creations.
One of our collaborations was our Portals multiverse tower inspired by The VLC fallout shelter standard. Each member built a room following the specifications so we would be able to stack the rooms and run interior lights. But that’s where the similarities end. Members could design the interior any way they wanted! The only stipulation was they had to include at least one portal.
We saw lots of rooms based on TV shows and movies…
botanical inspired rooms…
and of course, superhero rooms!
Check out the Portal Collaboration album on MILUG’s Facebook page to see more photos of other awesome rooms!
We also built a large Micropolis city using the TwinLUG standard to create a microscale city-scape. This was the first time we included a waterway separating two parts of our city connected by a microscale bridge!
Thank you to everyone who came out to the Mid Island Brick Fest! We appreciate your support and look forward to next year!
