Celebrating 25 years of LEGO® Star Wars at Curious Comicon!
MILUG celebrated 25 years of LEGO® Star Wars at Curious Comicon on May 4, 2024 (the perfect day to celebrate Star Wars). This year’s event was in honour of Mike Drummond, the creator and driver of Curious Comicon, who passed away early this year. Mike was a huge supporter of MILUG and he loved Star Wars, so we were honoured to be part of this year’s event and to be brining a massive Star Wars display.
Curious Comicon is a free family event. All proceeds from vendor registration and the silent auction go to a charity, and this year’s charity was the Nanaimo Brain Injury Society. The event was held at Country Club Centre and included a large variety of vendors and artists, as well as a Cosplay contest.
MILUG members filled 5 tables with Start Wars sets, MODs (modified sets), and MOCs (my own creations). Fans of all ages enjoyed see the LEGO® creations. Highlights were the massive UCS AT-AT (75313) and UCS Venator-Class Republic Attack Cruiser (75367) Also popular was the Boarding the Tantive IV™, a gift with purchase that many folks hadn’t seen or heard of.
Also popular among both Star Wars fans and those who had little to no exposure to Star Wars was the Ewok Village (10236) and MOC of the Ewok ‘n Rollers by Krista. Who can resist fuzzy little teddy bears in a treehouse village! Fan favourites also included UCS Yoda (7194) and various versions of R2-D2 including UCS R2-D2™ (75308) and smaller version from the Droid Commander (75253) set.
Other favourite MOCs include the Desert Sands (a Tatooine inspired landscape) by James G, the custom pod racers by Peter W, and pretty much all of the MOCs and MODs on display from our talented member John, who also happens to be a huge Star Wars fan.
This is a fantastic one-day family event with great energy and lots of great costumes! We look forward to next year’s show!
