MILUG Showcases Space at the Science Sunday Expo!
MILUG was back in action at the second annual Science Sunday Expo held by Nanaimo Science on Sunday, February 25, 2024. This large-scale event featured over forty science-related non-profit organizations and clubs spread throughout Country Club Centre in Nanaimo, BC.
This year MILUG members featured realistic space models including MOCs (My Own Creations), modified SECs (someone else’s creation), sets and modified sets. The most popular models were the motorized 6 ring GBC modified SEC (see it in action here) and the interactive orrery SEC (by JK Brickworks). Check out the JK Brickworks site for the parts list and free instructions.
Also popular were the various space craft on display including the Saturn 1B, modified Saturn V (21309) with Skylab Payload, Apollo-Soyuz, and SpaceX Falcon Booster. Also on display was the Hubble Space Telescope, modified International Space Station (21321), and Perseverance Rover (42158). Starman also made an appearance!
There were also a number of mosaic style MOCs depicting other aspects of space including the constellations of Nanaimo’s night sky, NASA Space Shuttle Discovery, and brick-built postcards inspired by the LEGO® set Tales of the Space Age (21340).
This is a very popular family event with great energy. It has quickly become one of our favourites since it’s inception last year. Check out the video of all the booths on the Nanaimo Science Instagram account (MILUG is highlighted near the end around the 18 minute mark). As always, we look forward to returning again next year!
